Sue and Ken Groff

Leadership Circle

As with so many Artis—Naples patrons, the Groffs started attending performances at the behest of friends from their hometown of Rockford, Illinois. “They took us to a Pops concert,” Ken Groff says. “And we just loved it.”

It didn’t take long until they became the evangelists for the organization. Sue Groff says there were just so many different types of programming they enjoyed that they couldn’t help but keep going. She especially enjoys ballet and to watch concertmaster Glenn Basham perform. It’s not unusual to see the couple at a dance program one night and a Classical concert the next with a headliner on their schedule for the next week.

“It’s to the point where we start planning our year in March when the programs come out,” Ken says.  “Back when we lived in Rockford, you didn’t get these kinds of programs. You would have to drive to Chicago, which is 90 minutes away. It was a big excursion. Here, there are so many things we want to see, and it’s just a few minutes away.”

At this point, their children and grandchildren even plan their visits to Naples around concerts or dance performances. “There are always so many wonderful activities,” Ken says.

But for the Groffs, it’s more than just the quality of the performances. They buy tickets to see what they like. They donate because of the atmosphere Artis—Naples has created for our patrons. “When I have a question or a comment, I can call up and someone will answer me right away,” Ken says. “It’s like a family with the way they want to help you. There’s a great rapport.

“It’s just such a wonderful environment to go to. We feel very comfortable there.”
