David and Joyce Hecht

Leadership Circle

The arts are critical to any community, if you ask David and Joyce Hecht. Longtime supporters of classical music and opera in their hometown of Grand Rapids, Michigan, the Hechts didn’t hesitate to become Artis—Naples patrons once they started living in the area.

The things they noticed immediately were the convenience of contributing to an organization that has orchestral, theatrical and ballet performances and visual arts all under one roof in a beautiful facility and the ability to book everything at one box office.

As subscribers to several series, the Hechts plan to spend more than two dozen evenings on the Kimberly K. Querrey and Louis A. Simpson Cultural Campus this season, which is great for a couple whose involvement and support of the arts has spanned more than five decades.

“We want to be involved in the community we live in,” David says, and it was philanthropy that brought the couple to Naples to begin with. Joyce raised money for Grand Valley State University, which held events for their South Florida donors in town. This introduction to Naples resulted in their now spending more than half the year here.

Joyce points out the quality of the Naples Philharmonic, the caliber of guest artists and the world-class Visiting Orchestra series as her personal highlights. “It all just adds so much to our lives and the community,” she says, adding that she’s very much looking forward to seeing Beautiful—The Carole King Musical and the Vienna Philharmonic this season.

“I love the diversity of the programming,” she says. “We commend Artis—Naples for doing an amazingly good job. We are two very pleased patrons.”
