From the very beginning of the Naples Philharmonic, our organization has worked with local schools to provide additional arts education to students throughout the district. In recent years, the partnership has flourished thanks to a variety of programs from our Young Person’s concerts to the LinkUp performances to our Make-and-Take workshops throughout the district.
Now, educators from both Artis—Naples and Collier County Public Schools are getting the opportunity to explore how to deepen the relationship further by participating in an exclusive program, the Partners in Education Institute, at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. The institute, which is celebrating its 25th year, helps arts organizations and schools create customized plans tailored to the needs of their communities. The Naples participants will receive detailed planning guides, attend performances and meet with national education leaders and guest artists while at the Kennedy Center, in Washington, D.C. At the institute, the participants will explore a variety of educational offerings for teachers developed and refined at the Kennedy Center.
Artis—Naples and Collier County Public Schools were selected because of an already effective partnership that demonstrates the potential for the arts organization and the school system to further grow programs for teachers.
This year’s institute class also includes attendees from California, Iowa, Michigan, North Carolina, New York, Ohio, Florida and Texas. The new participants join a roster of 95 teams in 41 states that have attended the program. The multi-year program begins in April and will include follow-up consultations, annual meetings and intensive seminars in the future. Plus, participants gain access to Kennedy Center resources.
“We are incredibly gratified to see our close partnership with Collier County Public Schools recognized by the Kennedy Center,” van Bergen said. “This institute will offer our team, along with the dedicated arts educators at the school district, a chance to explore how other organizations and schools around the country are working together to bring powerful arts instruction to students. This program will further cement our bond and give us tools to grow in the future.”
