Jessica Lang Dance

Founded in 2011, Jessica Lang Dance (JLD) is a Long Island City-based dance company dedicated to creating and performing the work of Jessica Lang. JLD enriches and inspires global audiences by immersing them in the beauty of movement and music.

Since the company's inception, marked by Lang's receipt of a Joyce Theater artist residency supported by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, JLD has made rapid success performing at world-renowned venues and festivals, including Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival; Brooklyn Academy of Music's Next Wave Festival; New York City Center's Fall for Dance Festival; the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts; the Joyce Theater; the Harris Theater for Music and Dance; the Music Center; Northrop Auditorium; Winspear Opera House and Palacio de Bellas Artes, among others. The company's performances have been named among the best dance events of the year by major publications in Dallas, Chicago, Kansas City and Boston. In 2014, JLD made its Kennedy Center debut with Scape, set to John Adams' Violin Concerto and played live by violinist Leila Josefowicz with the National Symphony Orchestra.

In Summer 2015, JLD performed a rare two-week run of The Wanderer at Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival. In November 2015, JLD made its critically acclaimed Chicago debut with Tesseracts of Time, co-commissioned by the Harris Theater for Music and Dance, the inaugural Chicago Architecture Biennial and the Society for the Performing Arts, featuring a set by world-renowned architect Steven Holl. In Summer 2017, the company returned to Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival for the fourth time in six years with a world premiere commissioned specifically for the festival’s 85th anniversary. In the upcoming 2017-18 touring season, JLD will be presented by venues including the Joyce Theater; Artis—Naples; UMASS Amherst; Carpenter Performing Arts Center; DeBartolo Performing Arts Center; WhiteBird’s presenting at the Newmark Theater and SUNY Purchase, among many others. In November 2017, JLD will be presented by Lincoln Center’s White Light Festival, performing the company premiere of Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater

JLD has received numerous grants and funding from organizations, including the New York Community Trust; Howard Gilman Foundation; Virginia B. Toulmin Foundation; Rockefeller Brothers Fund; the National Endowment for the Arts; New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and the New York State Legislature; the Shubert Foundation; the Jerome Robbins Foundation; the Irving Harris Foundation; the O'Donnell-Green Music and Dance Foundation; the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs; Harkness Foundation for Dance and the ArtsCONNECT program of Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation
