Like a Broadway spectacular, this holiday tradition has it all — glorious sets and costumes, magical special effects, Tchaikovsky’s beautiful music and exceptional dancing by international stars. Join Marie and her Nutcracker Prince as they travel through a winter wonderland of dancing snowflakes, sugar plum fairies and epic battles between heroic toy soldiers and mischievous mice — the perfect holiday treat for the entire family.

The Russian company performs 100 engagements each year in US and Canadian cities, including most of the largest cities. Moscow Ballet's Great Russian Nutcracker and other classic ballet repertoire entertain tens of thousands during the holiday season.

Moscow Ballet dancers are among the best in the world and include honored artists, laureates and winners of top awards at international ballet competitions around the world. Company members and ballet masters are graduates of top Russian schools, including Bolshoi, Mariinsky/Kirov and Perm, to name a few. The original Great Russian Nutcracker choreographer, Stanislav Vlasov, is a former member of the Bolshoi Company. Former ballet master Anatolie Emelianov graduated from the renowned Perm School and ballet master Anna Nekhludova is a Bolshoi Academy graduate. Set and production designer Valentin Federov is a student of the legendary Valery Leventhal of the Bolshoi Theater.

In addition to performances, Moscow Ballet’s North American platform allows Moscow Ballet to share the renowned Russian Vaganova ballet training with local dance students in the Dance with Us program. New Horizons—A Children’s Program for Life is an intensive, interactive cultural immersion program that benefits thousands of school children. In addition, Moscow Ballet presents workshops, master classes and auditions that develop ballet students annually.

Radu Paponiu

Radu Paponiu


Radu Paponiu is the assistant conductor to Andrey Boreyko and the Naples Philharmonic and director of the Naples Philharmonic Youth Orchestra. A native of Romania, Radu recently completed his Master of Music degree in orchestral conducting at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, where he studied with Hugh Wolff. While in Boston, Radu was also conductor apprentice with the Handel and Haydn Society, assisting Harry Christophers and Richard Egarr. Radu also served on the conducting faculty for the Juilliard School Pre-College Division in New York.

Radu furthered his studies under the guidance of Robert Spano, Larry Rachleff, Leonard Slatkin, Patrick Summers and Federico Cortese. Additionally, Radu served as assistant conductor for the Aspen Opera Theater Center’s full production of Mozart’s Così fan tutte.

Radu began his musical studies on the violin at age seven, moving on to study privately with Carmen Runceanu and Stefan Gheorghiu. After coming to the US at the invitation of the Perlman Music Program, Radu was accepted to the studio of Robert Lipsett at the Colburn School Conservatory of Music in Los Angeles, California, where he earned both a Bachelor of Music degree and an Artist Diploma degree in violin performance. Radu was appointed assistant conductor of the American Youth Symphony in spring 2011.
