A Tribute to Ella Fitzgerald
Deloris King Williams, vocalist
A tribute to the singing legend that brought us the hits Dream a Little Dream of Me, Let's Do It, My Heart Belongs to Daddy, and At Last.
Called the “best jazz repertory band in the country” by The New Yorker, the Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra (SJMO) presents A Tribute to Ella Fitzgerald, featuring “Billie Holiday Vocal Competition” winner Delores King Williams. Dubbed “The First Lady of Song,” Fitzgerald was the most popular female jazz singer in the United States for more than half a century. In her lifetime, she won 13 Grammy Awards and sold over 40 million albums. Her voice was flexible, wide-ranging and ageless. This special Tribute to Ella Fitzgerald program includes many of Ella’s original big band arrangements by such superstar arrangers as Count Basie, Billy Strayhorn and Benny Carter, as well as arrangements newly commissioned by the SJMO.
