Haydn – String Quartet in B-flat Major, Op. 1, No. 1 “The Hunt”
Haydn – String Quartet in G Major, Op. 77, No. 1
Mozart – Piano Quartet in G Minor, K. 478
The musicians of the Naples Philharmonic take you on a rare journey, from Haydn’s earliest string quartet to one of his latest. The “Father of the String Quartet,” Haydn composed sixty-eight quartets over a span of more than four decades—establishing virtually every chamber music convention heard today, including the continuously shifting interplay between instruments and inventive reconfigurations of folkloric music. The Sypert Salon Series gives you an opportunity to hear Haydn’s development for yourself, while marveling at the genius of the composer who defined the form. The program concludes with Mozart’s Piano Quartet No. 1, considered the first major piece composed for piano quartet in the chamber music repertoire.
This performance is part of the Sypert Salon chamber music series.
