Huiying Ma

Huiying Ma, violin, is originally from Kaohsiung, Taiwan. She received her Bachelor of Music degree from Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts studied with Michael Ma, and her Graduate Certificate in Performance degree from University of Southern California, where she studied with Martin Chalifour. She earned a Master of Music degree at Boston University, studying with Dana Mazurkevich.

Ma has participated in many music festivals, including the Lucerne Festival Academy; Tanglewood Music Festival; Sarasota Music Festival; Brevard Music Festival; Kent Blossom Music Festival; and Mozarteum Summer Academy.

Who have been your greatest musical influences? All of my teachers.

Who are your favorite composers? Mozart; Elgar; Chopin; Rachmaninoff; Tchaikovsky.

What’s currently playing on your iPod? I don’t use an iPod anymore!

Your hobbies and interests? I enjoy yoga; horseback riding; watching movies; going to theatrical plays; reading novels; and traveling.

Some little-known, yet interesting facts about you: I like collecting antiques. And I’m also a bit of a procrastinator as well.

Funniest concert moment: During an outdoor evening concert, a swarm of moths hovered right above the orchestra as the musicians tried desperately to shoo them away.

Daily practice rituals: Scales.
