Part I —
Art and Western Culture

John Lobell's Arts and Culture
Artis—Naples Lifelong Learning

We often think of works of art as isolated objects which we can enjoy for their beauty. But we can also see art as embedded in its culture. In this series of four talks, Lobell illustrates cultures as symbolic, each presenting a very different notion of who we are as human beings and how we construct our social environments.

March 23: Part I — Art and Western Culture
In this discussion, we examine how Western Europe understood itself and how it manifested that understanding in its art.

This presentation is the second of John Lobell's Arts and Culture lecture series.
