This talk will examine Robert Indiana's formidable career, his unique position in the history of post-war American art, his work's relationship to Pop Art and its influence on younger generations of artists. There will be a special focus on Indiana's most recent series of works, featured in the Now and Then exhibition, which center on some of Bob Dylan's most famous and provocative song lyrics.
David Ebony is currently a contributing editor of Art in America magazine. He has written over 400 articles for the magazine, including a feature on Robert Indiana’s work in the November 2008 issue. David Ebony is also a contributing editor of Yale University Press online and artnet news. Among his many books are Anselm Reyle: Mystic Silver (2012); Carlo Maria Mariani in the 21st Century (2011); Emily Mason (2006); Botero: Abu Ghraib (2006); Craigie Horsfield: Relation (2005) and Graham Sutherland: A Retrospective (1998). He lives and works in New York City.
