March 25: Magical Macbeth

A special showing of the Folger Theatre’s 2008 production of Macbeth, notable for its abundant use of magical effects and for the searing performance by Kate Eastwood Norris as Lady Macbeth. A discussion with Ms. Norris follows the showing.

Prior to attending Gail Kern Paster’s and Kate Eastwood Norris’ “Magical Macbeth” lecture on March 25, join your fellow Shakespeare in Film participants for a screening of the Folger Theatre’s Macbeth (2008), directed by Teller and Aaron Posner, on the Artis—Naples campus.

Tickets include both days, lecture and movie preview.

Gail Kern Paster

Gail Kern Paster is Director Emerita of the Folger Shakespeare Library. She has won many national fellowships and awards, including fellowships from the Woodrow Wilson Foundation, National Endowment from the Humanities, the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation and the Mellon Foundation. She was named to the Queen’s Honours List as a Commander of the British Empire in May 2011.

She is the author of numerous scholarly articles and three books—The Idea of the City in the Age of Shakespeare, The Body Embarrassed: Drama and the Disciplines of Shame in Early Modern England and Humoring the Body: Emotions and the Shakespearean Stage. Dr. Paster has been a trustee of the Shakespeare Association of America and served as President of that organization in 2003. She was recently elected to the Board of Governors of the Folger Shakespeare Library.

Kate Eastwood Norris

Kate Eastwood Norris

Kate Eastwood Norris is a nationwide regional actor who has appeared in numerous productions at The Folger Theatre. She is a company member at Woolly Mammoth theater in Washington DC and teaches Shakespeare to students of all ages.
