Travels in Art

Art Excursions

The Explore Florida! series offers stimulating day trips to exciting museums, exhibitions and private collections. Previous outings have included visits to St. Augustine, Winter Park, Coconut Grove, Miami and Palm Beach. Join Friends of Artis—Naples as we prepare for these trips:

Sarasota: Art and Architecture

This delightful trip to the Ringling Museum of Art will be the starting point for an architectural tour of Sarasota. The Ringling has the Walker Guest House replica, which represents the “Sarasota School” of modernism. From there, we will visit some of the remarkable buildings in the city, stopping for lunch along the way at Bijou Café. Our tour ends at the scenic Marie Selby Gardens for Marc Chagall’s Cote d’Azur: The Artist’s Botanical Imagery and Inspiration Found on the French Riviera, which will incorporate key works by Chagall. At the center of the exhibit will be The Lovers, a 1937 Chagall on loan from the Israel Museum. March 28, 2017.

Sculptures created by artist Kevin Box and inspired by the Japanese art of origami have filled the Naples Botanical Garden and the Kimberly K. Querrey and Louis A. Simpson Cultural Campus at Artis—Naples this season. Our study group will include an in-depth docent-led tour of the origami sculptures at both venues. April 6, 2017.
