Vocals have always had a prominent place in jazz music. Whether singing lyrics or scat singing, jazz vocalists are often regarded as another instrumentalist in the ensemble, adding their voice to the chorus of sounds. This lecture offers a look at some of the most influential vocalists to riff on the jazz scene in recent years.
