Four O’clock at the Movies
The Banshees of Inisherin
Artis—Naples Lifelong Learning
Elaine Newton, Ph.D., Professor Emeritus of Humanities at York University, Toronto
On a small and remote island off the coast of Ireland, a pair of lifelong friends, Pádraic and Colm, find themselves at an impasse when Colm abruptly ends their friendship with no explanation. Puzzled and hurt — yet determined to repair the relationship — Pádraic sets out to win his friend back, but Colm only digs his heels in further. Eventually, Pádraic’s tenacity and Colm’s stubbornness come to a head… resulting in shocking consequences. Written and directed by Martin McDonagh (In Bruges and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri) and starring Brendan Gleeson and Colin Farrell, The Banshees of Inisherin has received nine nominations at the 95th Academy Awards.
This presentation is part of Elaine Newton's Four O’clock at the Movies series.
