The Orchestra Moves
with the Naples Philharmonic
A performance for elementary school students
Radu Paponiu, conductor
Programming to be announced.
In partnership with Carnegie Hall
Melody, rhythm and harmony all change shift and develop. Our emotions, and sometimes even our movements, shift and develop when we experience music. Through the Link Up repertoire and interactive performance with the Naples Philharmonic, students will discover how the orchestra moves!
Local students “link up” with Carnegie Hall and the Naples Philharmonic. This partnership unites the classroom with the concert hall and invites students to learn about the orchestra by becoming a part of it themselves. Students learn to play an instrument in their classroom and then perform with the Naples Philharmonic.
Radu Paponiu is the Associate Conductor of the Naples Philharmonic, having previously served for two years as Assistant Conductor, and director of the Naples Philharmonic Youth Orchestra. During the 2018-19 season, he conducted the Naples Philharmonic in nearly 20 different classical, education and pops programs.
Radu recently completed his Master of Music degree in orchestral conducting at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston where he studied with Hugh Wolff. While in Boston, he was also conductor apprentice with the Handel and Haydn Society, assisting Harry Christophers and Richard Egarr. For two consecutive summers, Radu furthered his studies in conducting at the American Academy of Conducting in Aspen, Colorado, where he worked with Robert Spano, Leonard Slatkin, Larry Rachleff, Patrick Summers and Federico Cortese. Additionally, Radu has completed both a Bachelor of Music degree and an Artist Diploma degree in violin performance at the Colburn Conservatory in Los Angeles, where he studied with Robert Lipsett.
Radu has appeared as guest conductor for concerts with the Naples Philharmonic, the North Carolina Symphony, the Colorado Music Festival Orchestra, the National Repertory Orchestra and participated in a conducting workshop with the New World Symphony led by Michael Tilson Thomas. He has served on the conducting faculty for the Juilliard School Pre-College Division in New York, and he has also served as cover conductor for the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, the St. Louis Symphony and the Konzerthausorchester Berlin.
