Gounod’s Romeo et Juliette, an opera in five acts, tells the story of Shakespeare’s most famous tragedy and most ardent romance. Charles Gounod’s retelling of the star-crossed lovers’ tale is bursting with emotional intimacy, bringing the love story to the foreground and allowing the original story’s political landscape to fade into the background. Structured around four exquisitely harmonious and romantic duets, this fully staged presentation of Romeo et Juliette by Opera Naples and the Naples Philharmonic is filled with dazzling waltzes, infectious music, ravishing costumes and passionate romance.
