Mendelssohn String Quintet
Naples Philharmonic Sypert Salon Chamber Music

Musicians of the Naples Philharmonic

Mayer — String Quartet in G Minor
Mendelssohn — String Quintet in A Major

Musicians of the Naples Philharmonic open the 2022-23 Sypert Salon series with an intimate afternoon of chamber works, beginning with 19th-century German female composer Emilie Mayer’s String Quartet in G Minor. The quartet is a thrilling piece that dashes excitedly from start to finish — a fitting commencement for the season. Following the quartet is a display of Felix Mendelssohn’s prodigious beginnings: the String Quintet No. 1. Mendelssohn wrote the quintet at just 17 years old, soon after his famous String Octet. And despite his youth, the signature sounds of Mendelssohn and his mastery over the strings permeate the entire piece.

The Sypert Salon Series is generously sponsored by Drs. George Sypert and Joy Arpin.
