Mozart — Flute Quartet in D Major
Schumann — Fairy Tales
Mozart — String Quartet

Mozart famously disliked the flute, having once penned a letter to his father stating that it was an instrument he “cannot bear.” But that aversion toward the instrument is difficult to detect in listening to his D Major Flute Quartet, commissioned along with a flute concerto and an additional flute quartet. Musicians of the Naples Philharmonic perform Mozart’s lively and animated chamber masterpiece for flute and strings, as well as Schumann’s Fairy Tales — a whirling, bouncing collection of four fairy tales evoking a sense of fairies dancing. This piece, written for clarinet, viola and piano, was performed by Schumann’s wife, Clara, at its premiere.

The Sypert Salon Series is generously sponsored by Drs. George Sypert and Joy Arpin.
