Coleridge-Taylor — Five Fantasy Pieces for String Quartet
Walton — Façade
Musicians of the Naples Philharmonic present a program of two chamber works, beginning with English composer Samuel Coleridge-Taylor’s Five Fantasy Pieces for String Quartet — written in the tradition of Schumann and Dvořák with five distinctive character pieces, each with its own unique tone — as well as William Walton’s Façade. Originally composed by Walton in collaboration with English writer Edith Sitwell, Façade is a series of short selections of music influenced by jazz, early 20th-century dance tunes and music hall airs, written to accompany Sitwell’s series of poems. The combined work was titled Façade: An Entertainment.
The Wang Chamber Music series is generously sponsored by David* and Cecile Wang.
