Respighi — Il tramonto
Britten — Phantasy Quartet in F Minor
Zemlinsky — Four Songs for Soprano and String Sextet, Op. 8
The final Wang Chamber Music performance of the 2022-23 season ends on a high note as musicians of the Naples Philharmonic are joined by Korean soprano Hera Hyesang Park for an afternoon of poetic chamber masterpieces written for soprano, beginning with Italian composer Ottorino Resphighi’s Il tramonto. A gorgeous musical setting of English writer Percy Bysshe Shelley’s poem The Sunset, Resphighi’s work itself is musical poetry at its finest, bursting with color and intricate harmonies. The program concludes as Park and the chamber musicians perform an arrangement for soprano and string sextet of Austrian composer Alexander von Zemlinsky’s Four Songs, Op. 8, a collection of four songs that set bleak and romantic poems to music.
The Wang Chamber Music series is generously sponsored by David* and Cecile Wang.
