A year after her family suffers an unimaginable loss, teenager Tess pens a heartfelt letter to her dead little sister Zoe, reflecting on what was lost, her resistance to traveling with her family down recovery road, and the surprising sources from which she gains love and support so that she can begin to get better. Before she’s ready to write that letter, Tess runs away from her emotionally shut-down home. She enlists the support of her biological father — a lovable slacker — and the charming juvenile delinquent next door, who help her come to terms with her swirling emotions in the aftermath of the death of her little sister, Zoe.
