A Midsummer Night’s Dream

Kate Lechler's Shakespeare — From Page to Stage Series
Artis—Naples Lifelong Learning

Dr. Kate Lechler, adjunct professor, University of Mississippi

This two-part lecture series on two of Shakespeare's most popular and enduring plays brings the language of the Bard to life on stage and in film. With a careful study of Shakespeare's original texts and several examples of how these works have been adapted to stage and screen, this lecture will demonstrate how exciting, emotional and relevant Shakespeare can be to a modern reader and audience member.

Part II, March 20Antony and Cleopatra

A Midsummer Night's Dream

In the first 90-minute lecture, we'll examine how Shakespeare's vibrant, poetic dialogue and imagery can help us understand character and themes in A Midsummer Night's Dream, a rollicking comedy about the magic of young love, while looking at clips from the Kevin Kline and Michelle Pfeiffer film, among others. This lecture is part of Kate Lechler's Shakespeare — From Page to Stage series.
