Lecture

Antony and Cleopatra

Kate Lechler's Shakespeare — From Page to Stage Series
Artis—Naples Lifelong Learning

Dr. Kate Lechler, adjunct professor, University of Mississippi

This two-part lecture series on two of Shakespeare's most popular and enduring plays brings the language of the Bard to life on stage and in film. With a careful study of Shakespeare's original texts and several examples of how these works have been adapted to stage and screen, this lecture will demonstrate how exciting, emotional and relevant Shakespeare can be to a modern reader and audience member.

Part I, March 19Midsummer Night’s Dream
Part II, March 20Antony and Cleopatra

Antony and Cleopatra

In this second 90-minute lecture, we'll explore Antony and Cleopatra, a tense and passionate drama between two powerful lovers, and watch clips from the Timothy Dalton and Lynn Redgrave production, among others. Each session will follow up with a Q&A on performing and directing Shakespeare and other Renaissance playwrights. This lecture is part of Kate Lechler's Shakespeare — From Page to Stage series.
