Gisela Carbonell, Director of Curatorial Affairs, The Baker Museum

This artist talk welcomes the four artists featured in the Florida Contemporary exhibition: Gay Germain, Tammra Sigler, Pat Zalisko and Reisha Perlmutter. Their diverse work speaks to the power of art as a means of communication and self-reflection. Conducted by Gisela Carbonell, Director of Curatorial Affairs, this lecture will feature a Q&A session, giving audience members an opportunity to speak directly with the artists. Admission is free.

Gisela Carbonell

Gisela Carbonell is director of curatorial affairs at Artis—Naples, The Baker Museum. Her recent curatorial projects include The Olga Hirshhorn Collection (2016-17), New Acquisitions: In Context from the Collection of Paul and Charlotte Corddry (2016), Celebrating 15 Years of Collecting at The Baker Museum (2016) and Dressed and Undressed: Selections from the Permanent Collection (2015-16). Prior to her appointment as director of curatorial affairs, Gisela was the curator of special collections at Artis—Naples, The Baker Museum. Previously, she was professor of art history and humanities at the University of Puerto Rico at Cayey for almost ten years and previously, curatorial assistant at the Krannert Art Museum in Illinois. Gisela received a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras, a master’s in art history from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and a Ph.D. in art history from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
