Application Process

  • Please complete the application with the link above.
  • Students who are not currently members of the Naples Philharmonic Jazz Youth Orchestra will be required to submit a video audition with the application at the link above.

Audition Requirements

Students who are not currently NPYJO members should submit a 3-5 minute audition video with application that includes the below components:

  1. Solo piece of choice (except for drummers). Examples include:
    • Play the melody and/or improvise on a standard tune.
    • Play the melody and/or improvise on a jazz original.
    • Play the melody on a ballad.
    • Play a solo transcription.
    • Play a jazz etude.
  2. Improvisation over two choruses of an F blues. Backing tracks are provided in the application.
  3. For drummers only: Please demonstrate swing and Latin styles (bossa nova and Afro-Cuban).

Tuition

Tuition for the camp is $350 and is inclusive of lunch and snacks. Financial assistance is available based on need.

Members of the Naples Philharmonic Youth Jazz Orchestra and other jazz students ages 12 to 18 are invited to challenge themselves in a fun, yet intensive week packed with seminars, rehearsals, master classes and a final performance. Each day, students will work together in big band groups to practice essential jazz performance skills, especially improvisation.
 

Schedule


Students will rotate between seminars, rehearsals, instrumental master classes and other instructional time.
