Daniels Pavilion will get a little funky when tenor saxophonist and soul master Houston Person joins the Naples Philharmonic Jazz Orchestra for an evening of head bobbing, pulse-pounding soul jazz.
Known for his robust sound and swinging style as well, as well as a carefully chosen repertoire of blues ballads, popular and R&B standards as well as compositions by fellow jazz instrumentalists, Person has been a key figure in keeping hard bop and organ-soaked jazz traditions alive.
After leaving organist Johnny “Hammond” Smith’s band, Person formed his own group, cementing himself as a purveyor of the funky soul-jazz sound popularized by peers like Cannonball Adderly and similar artists. Over the past six decades, Person has toured five continents and released 75 albums. Join us for a night of infectious rhythms and soulful melodies as Person and the jazz orchestra deliver an unforgettable performance.
