A Kansas City native, Wijnands brings a deep connection to the vocal jazz tradition, shaped by her studies at SUNY Purchase’s Conservatory of Music and her experience performing alongside artists including Ron Carter, Houston Person and Joe Magnarelli. Her performances balance classic influences with fresh, modern sensibility.

Lucy Wijnands
A rising jazz vocalist originally from Kansas City, Lucy Wijnands blends rich heritage with modern authenticity. After graduating from SUNY Purchase’s Conservatory of Music as the Ella Fitzgerald Scholar and recipient of the President’s Award for Achievement in 2020, Wijnands took her formidable vocal talent on the road, touring Europe before landing a 16-week residency singing with the prestigious Birdland Big Band and becoming a regular at Manhattan’s Mezzrow and other jazz clubs. Along the way, she has shared the stage with All That Jazz veterans like Joe Magnarelli, Houston Person and Pasquale Grasso as well as jazz legends like bassist Ron Carter.
