Art in Focus [In]famous Unconventional Approaches to Artmaking

Keidra Daniels Navarolilecturer

What makes a work of art famous? Is it scandal, innovation, or something more? This lecture examines art that challenges our expectations — from the debut of Marcel Duchamp’s Nude Descending a Staircase at the New York Armory Show in 1913 to Maurizio Cattelan’s Comedian (aka the duct-taped banana) at Art Basel Miami in 2019.

Visual art is fundamental to framing not only what we see but how we see it. Drawing from renowned collections and institutions, the Art in Focus lecture series explores a range of critical topics in art today, breaking down concepts, culture and cutting-edge innovations. Join scholar and curator Keidra Daniels Navaroli on an illustrated journey through the “centers” and “margins” of the art world, bringing art — and its connections — into greater focus.
