Grand Piano Series presents Louis Lortie

Louis Lortie, piano

Chopin — Andante Spianato e Grande Polonaise brillante, Op. 22
    3 Mazurkas, Op. 59
Polonaise No. 5 in F-sharp Minor, Op. 44
Polonaise No. 1 in C-sharp Minor, Op. 26, No. 1
    4 Mazurkas, Op. 24
    Polonaise No. 7 in A-flat Major, Op. 61, “Polonaise-fantasie”

The spirit of Poland resonates through the piano music of Frédéric Chopin in this program celebrating dance transformed into art. Featuring acclaimed Canadian pianist Louis Lortie, known for his precision and “monster technique” (Los Angeles Times), the performance invites audiences on a spirited journey from the aristocratic sweep of the polonaise and the rustic poetry of the mazurka to the shimmering Andante spianato and Grande polonaise brillante, crowning an evening where intense national character and personal expression intersect.

This presentation is part of the Grand Piano Series. Grand Piano Series is an independent nonprofit organization.
