Lecture

Broadway Stories POP-ular!
An Exploration of the Jukebox Musical

Greg Brown, lecturer

Broadway and popular music have held a cozy relationship over the past 100 years, made only cozier by the invention and proliferation of the jukebox musical, a unique form that borrows from the song catalog of a particular musical artist, writer or time period to form the score for an original Broadway musical. We’ll examine the various creative ways in which Broadway artists have adapted the work of the music industry, such as MJ, The Cher Show and MAMMA MIA! brethren for the stage to create work that is at once familiar but also brand new.

This presentation is part of Greg Brown's Broadway Stories series.
