A Meditation on Sound and Light
Laurie Lyons, founder and director of Zen & the Arts
Step into the intersection of art, sound and meditation with a transformative experience at The Baker Museum. This immersive session reimagines the ancient art of meditation through a modern lens, serving as an entryway into the exhibition Rafael Lozano-Hemmer: Obra Sonora.
In our everyday lives, we often perceive sounds as external, separate from ourselves — happening “out there.” This meditation invites you to explore the boundary between the listener and the heard, dissolving the illusion of separation and fostering a profound sense of unity with the world around you.
Participants will be invited to sit on cushions or chairs in a dimly lit space, surrounded by a captivating field of light and an intricate array of soundscapes. These include the elemental rhythms of wind, water, fire and ice, alongside the vibrant symphony of over 200 insect species, 300 bird calls, resonant bells and more.
Guided by local Zen teacher Laurie Lyons, this experience is open to everyone. No prior experience with meditation or art is necessary — simply bring your curiosity and a willingness to explore. Join us and reconnect with the harmony of self, sound and light.
This event is part of the exhibition Rafael Lozano-Hemmer: Obra Sonora.
All guided meditation tickets include same-day admission to The Baker Museum.
