Jennifer Scanlan, executive director, James Renwick Alliance for Craft

Renowned contemporary craft expert Jennifer Scanlan offers an illuminating look at selected works included in The Passion of Collecting: Stories in Glass and Ceramics from the Sibrack Collection. Drawing on decades of experience working with contemporary craft artists, the discussion explores the artistic innovations and cultural significance of works by contemporary ceramic artists, including Adrian Arleo, George Rodriguez, Etsuko Tashima, Tip Toland, Kukuli Velarde, Patti Warashina and others. Scanlan provides a unique opportunity to gain deeper insight into the evolution of contemporary ceramics and the significance of the works in the Sibrack Collection.

Jennifer Scanlan

Jennifer Scanlan is the executive director of the James Renwick Alliance for Craft in Washington, D.C. She has more than two decades of experience in the arts, with a particular emphasis on contemporary craft. Her previous roles include deputy director at Craft Alliance in St. Louis, Missouri; curatorial and exhibitions director at Oklahoma Contemporary in Oklahoma City; and associate curator at the Museum of Arts and Design, New York City. Scanlan has also worked internationally as an independent curator and consultant on exhibitions, public art projects, and publications. She has taught courses in contemporary craft and craft history at The Courtauld Institute of Art Summer School in London and at The New School Parsons School of Design in New York.
