For six decades, Jimmy Grashow’s woodcuts and sculptures in cardboard have graced many galleries and museums. His work has been featured on album covers and in countless publications, including Rolling Stone, Esquire and The New York Times. Jimmy’s inventive and irreverent works stand in contrast to the inner dark side and fear of mortality that have haunted him since childhood. At 79, Jimmy is offered a commission by a collector who has a strong faith that is different from his own. The result, a carved sculpture of Jesus carrying a cathedral on his back, tormented by demons at his feet. In Jimmy & The Demons, we witness Jimmy’s devotion to his craft and the creation of his magnum opus. For four years, he dedicates everything — time, labor, creativity, passion and love, even at the expense of his health — to that singular vision: an intricate sculpture that almost becomes a self-portrait.
