Callie, a sheltered 19-year-old heading off to college, takes a summer job at a Korean taqueria in Chicago. Hoping to earn a recommendation letter for future internships, she joins a restaurant crew of ex-cons as a line cook. Callie expects to survive three months of annoying “Karens” and mopping bathrooms by keeping her head down and working hard... only to get dragged into a series of misadventures leading up to a health inspector’s visit at the end of the summer. Her determination earns her a place among this family of misfits, revealing the solidarity and surprises that come with working for minimum wage in the service industry. As she recognizes the safe haven the restaurant has become for its crew, Callie must decide what matters more: her co-workers or the letter.
