Four Decades of Artistic Excellence

The role of music director has developed into a podium that encompasses more than being the conductor of the Naples Philharmonic. The music director establishes the creative goals and inspires programmatic development for Artis—Naples, bringing an essential perspective in our unique multidisciplinary mission to cultivate broader appreciation and deeper connections for the various art forms. The Naples Philharmonic has enjoyed a history of fruitful relationships with music directors, each of whom impacted the artistic life of the Naples Philharmonic, deepened audience relationships and enriched the cultural community. Since 1984, there have been four music directors: Timothy Russell (1984-1993), Christopher Seaman (1993-2004), Jorge Mester (2004-2012) and Andrey Boreyko (2014-2022).

Alexander Shelley has been named artistic and music director and begins his tenure in this role in the 2024-25 season, and he commences his partnership with Artis—Naples immediately as artistic and music director designate through the 2023-24 season.
