Four Decades of Artistic Excellence

The role of music director has developed into a podium that encompasses more than being the conductor of the Naples Philharmonic. The music director establishes the creative goals and inspires programmatic development for Artis—Naples, bringing an essential perspective in our unique multidisciplinary mission to cultivate broader appreciation and deeper connections for the various art forms. The Naples Philharmonic has enjoyed a history of fruitful relationships with music directors, each of whom impacted the artistic life of the Naples Philharmonic, deepened audience relationships and enriched the cultural community. Since 1984, there have been five artistic leaders: Timothy Russell (1984-1993), Christopher Seaman (1993-2004), Jorge Mester (2004-2012), Andrey Boreyko (2014-2022) and as of the 2024-25 season, Alexander Shelley as artistic and music director.
