Process to Artwork: Exploring the Role of Maquettes in Sculpture and Monuments

February 12, 2025
Wednesday at 10am
Ubben Signature Event Space

Maquettes, or three-dimensional sketches, are often used by artists and architects to develop or present ideas for monuments, sculptures or buildings. While initially intended as studies, many maquettes diverge from the final product and gain unique artistic significance, showcasing the process and evolution of ideas. This lecture, led by art conservator Rosa Lowinger, explores the differences between artists’ and architects’ maquettes, focusing on their dual roles as both works of art and documents, particularly in the 20th century.
