Charles Bergeron, Ph.D., professor of jazz studies at the University of Miami, is holding a birthday party celebrating the lives and careers of influential jazz artists who would have hit the century mark in 2026. In this lecture, he examines artists such as Tony Bennett, as well as jazz giants like Miles Davis and John Coltrane who worked together for five years, recording several iconic albums together — including the landmark, Kind of Blue. Our lifelong learners and all jazz aficionados will not want to miss this lecture!

Continuing from our first lecture on the concepts of improvisation, this lecture explores some of the tools used in jazz improvisation, and how those tools evolved throughout the 20th century. We will listen to some of your favorite jazz artists and build comparisons between style periods.
