Jazz History The Ladies of Jazz Female Instrumentalists Leading the Way
Charles Bergeron, Ph.D., Professor of Jazz History and Program Director for Jazz Pedagogy at the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music
In a male-dominated industry, this lecture sheds some much-needed light on the lineage of important and influential jazz artists who happen to be women. From 20th-century trailblazers like Lil Hardin, Mary Lou Williams and Melba Liston to modern icons like Terri Lyne Carrington, Regina Carter, Cindy Blackman, Esperanza Spalding, Melissa Aldana, Renee Rosnes and the Diva Jazz Orchestra, this lecture focuses on some of jazz music’s most impactful female artists.
This presentation is part of Charles Bergeron's Jazz History series.
