Known for their boundary-pushing artistry and collaborative spirit, the Mahler Chamber Orchestra makes its Hayes Hall debut in a program that highlights the ensemble’s flexibility and vibrant sound. Pianist Yuja Wang, recently named the orchestra’s artistic partner, takes on the dual role of soloist and director, leading the ensemble from the keyboard. The evening begins with Prokofiev’s Symphony No. 1, a witty homage to Haydn, followed by Hindemith’s The Four Temperaments, originally composed for a ballet by George Balanchine. The program concludes with the poetic lyricism and dazzling virtuosity of Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 2.
