Discover joy, creativity and connection through the power of music. For lifelong learners who want to go beyond our lectures, exhibitions and concerts, this specialized therapeutic program is designed to enhance physical and emotional well-being, stimulate cognitive function, reduce stress and build meaningful connections with others. Guided by licensed music therapist Jaley Montgomery, participants will experience hands-on music activities by playing simple musical instruments, singing and more!
This workshop gives patrons the opportunity to use the creative process through music and truly experience the health benefits the arts have to offer. Regardless of musical ability, this workshop is for anyone who loves the arts and wants to make a positive impact on their life.
This presentation is part of the Artis—Wellness series. Two sessions will focus on music and two will focus on visual arts.

Jaley Montgomery, a Ph.D. candidate in music therapy at Colorado State University, began her clinical experience in private practice to serve individuals with intellectual disabilities and developmental disabilities in Southwest Indiana. She then was a music therapist at an autism center in Southwest Missouri. During this time, she earned her master’s degree in music therapy through CSU. Her thesis pertained to the effects of music therapy on joint attention and sibling relationships with autistic children. At the autism center, Montgomery served as an internship supervisor, and during this time realized her passion to teach music therapy students. She then became a clinical assistant professor of music therapy and clinical practicum coordinator at a university in Southern Indiana. In 2021, Montgomery moved to Fort Collins, Colorado, to be in the first cohort of students to start the Ph.D. in music therapy program at Colorado State University. At CSU, Montgomery was a graduate teaching assistant who taught music therapy classes each semester and supervised practicum students in a variety of settings. Her research investigates utilizing supports in music therapy for neurodivergent individuals. She is delighted to return to the classroom and teach the next generation of music therapists at FGCU and to work with the Shady Rest Institute on Positive Aging.
