Lecture

Asian Art and History Genghis Khan and Kublai Khan Barbarians or Contributors to Civilization

Morris Rossabi, Ph.D., Associate Adjunct Professor of Chinese History, Columbia University

This illustrated lecture goes beyond what we know about the Mongol barbarians who massacred tens of millions on the way to conquering the largest landmass in world history. What they destroyed only tells part of their story. Join Morris Rossabi as he discusses their positive contributions, which included uniting China, building cities and promoting religious tolerance. They also fostered the arts, leading to the production of Chinese textiles, porcelains and paintings, Persian illustrated manuscripts and tiles and Russian gold objects.

This presentation is part of the Asian Art and History series.
