Lecture

Broadway Stories John & Fred & Stephen & Hal The Concept Musical

Greg Brown, lecturer

Explore how the turbulent but formative years of the 1960s and 1970s helped to shape the modern musical through the creation of the “concept musical,” works whose central theatrical conceit drove the form into new, uncharted territory.

From Man of La Mancha to Cabaret and Company to A Chorus Line, these decades rocked the foundations of musical theater and redefined what the sung play could mean with geniuses like John Kander, Fred Ebb, Bob Fosse, Stephen Sondheim and Michael Bennett at the helm.

This presentation is part of Greg Brown's Broadway Stories series.
