Broadway Stories Sweet and Hot:
The Enduring Legacy of the Jazz Age on Broadway
Greg Brown, lecturer
In the nascent years of the 1920s and early 1930s, theater writers and composers like George Gershwin, Cole Porter, Vincent Youmans and Eubie Blake created shows that would become the template for what we now call the Broadway musical. Despite nearly a century since their creation, their works stand as the inspiration for and apotheosis of the form, with contemporary writers turning out works like Some Like it Hot, Thoroughly Modern Millie and The Drowsy Chaperone that continue to derive inspiration from the time. Come explore why this uniquely creative era has held such an enduring legacy in the history of Broadway.
This presentation is part of Greg Brown's Broadway Stories series.
