Lecture
Hooray for Hollywood The Films of Meryl Streep
Part Two
Rick Harris, lecturer
It didn’t take Meryl Streep long to be considered among the world’s best actresses. After a small role in the 1977 Jane Fonda-starring film, Julia, Streep earned the first of 21 Academy Award nominations for her part in Michael Cimino’s 1978 Vietnam epic, The Deer Hunter. A year later, she won her first Oscar for a supporting role in Kramer vs. Kramer.
In the years that followed, Streep would earn two more Best Supporting Actress nominations, one for 2002’s Adaptation and another for 2014’s Into the Woods. As a leading actress, however, she earned Oscars for 1982’s Sophie’s Choice and 2011’s The Iron Lady. In the second of this two-part program, we will watch the thespian at work as she disappears into every role.
This presentation is part of Rick Harris' Hooray for Hollywood series.
