2018 Naples International Film Festival


The Juried Competitions


New to the Naples International Film Festival in 2018 — two juried competitions in which select films are competing to win cash prizes of $3,000 in both the Narrative Feature and Documentary Feature categories. Winners will be announced at the Closing Night Awards Ceremony.

In the Narrative Feature competition, films include:

  Are You Glad I’m Here
  The Etruscan Smile
  Sashinka
  Tucked

In the Documentary Feature competition, films include:

  The 5 Browns: Digging Through the Darkness
  Bathtubs Over Broadway
  Bias
  White Tide: The Legend of Culebra

Learn more about all these films. We are lucky to have these three qualified judges evaluating films over the course of the festival. Winners will be announced at the Closing Night Awards Ceremony.

Carlos Aguilar

Originally from Mexico City, Carlos Aguilar was one of six young film critics to partake in the first Roger Ebert Fellowship, the Sundance Institute and IndieWire in 2014. He has written for IndieWire, RogerEbert.com, MovieMaker Magazine, Remezcla's Filmmaker Magazine, Variety Latino, Slate and others. Aguilar regularly works as a screener for the Sundance Film Festival and as a screenplay reader for Sundance’s Screenwriters Lab, and he often serves on renowned festival juries.

Nancy Schafer

Nancy Schafer is an independent film producer and consultant, premiering six feature films at top festivals in recent years, all receiving distribution in the U.S. Her last two narrative films, Barracuda and Transpecos, premiered in competition at SXSW, with Transpecos winning the Audience Award. She ran the Tribeca Film Festival from inception to July 2012 and also created and ran the SXSW Film Festival for eight years.

Lela Meadow

Lela Meadow was a founder and later Executive Director of Wichita’s Tallgrass Film Festival. She also consulted with the Woods Hole Film Festival and Geena Davis’ Bentonville Film Festival. In her 20 years in the entertainment industry, she has created events for the Oscars®, Sundance Film Festival and Golden Globes. She currently serves as Executive Director of the Film Festival Alliance and often serves as a major film festival juror.
