Bouncing around the foster care system for most of her life, 12-year-old Alicia Willis ditches school to visit her veteran father, Sgt. Beaumont “Bo” Willis, on the streets of Los Angeles’ Skid Row. Bo is homeless and battling mental illness after suffering a brain injury during his service. The injury renders him unable to recognize his own daughter most of the time. But to Alicia, it doesn’t matter, because she loves him and remembers the wonderful father he used to be.
Alicia wants to be a writer when she grows up, spending her time writing tales about a Princess on a quest. Magdalene, Alicia’s assigned social worker, recognizes her gift and decides to place her in the perfect home at a beautiful farm along the coast. Unfortunately, the home is 10 hours away from L.A.
Fearful of never seeing her father again, Alicia takes matters into her own hands and decides to escape the city with her father on a mission to find a better life where they can live together in peace.
