Tired of his dreary life as a businessman in England, Mr. Blake (John Malkovich) moves to France to work as a butler at the Domaine de Beauvillier estate. But while Mr. Blake had hoped to find a peaceful fresh start, he finds the rundown manor and its colorful residents to be in even worse shape than he is—and it all threatens to be more drama than he bargained for.

While the residents of Domaine de Beauvillier estate each come with their own melodramatic woes, the arrival of their new, very British butler inspires a wave of positive change. Together, the residents work to restore the manor to its former glory, while simultaneously embarking on journeys of personal healing. In the end, everyone—Mr. Blake, the residents and even the estate itself—get a new lease on life.
