Based on the inspiring true story of Melony Armstrong, Freedom Hair focuses on a determined mother who works at a shelter for women affected by domestic violence. Intent on gaining financial independence for herself and others, Armstrong (played by Simona Brown, AMC’s The Night Manager and The Little Drummer Girl) decides to open a natural hair braiding business called Naturally Speaking in Tupelo, Mississippi. But before she can get her business off the ground, she must overcome some unexpected obstacles imposed by a powerful cosmetology cartel and the state of Mississippi. In this uplifting feature, you’ll cheer on this underdog as she challenges the political establishment and fights for herself and hundreds of other Mississippi women who want an opportunity to provide for themselves through honest enterprise.
