Throughout a remarkable career spanning nearly five decades and multiple musical genres, Jack Everly has secured his place as one of America’s leading artists of symphonic music. Everly currently serves as principal pops conductor of the Naples Philharmonic and the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. Previously, Jack held celebrated tenures as principal pops conductor of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and the National Arts Centre Orchestra (Ottawa) and continues as a guest conductor with both ensembles. Jack’s past guest conducting highlights include the Los Angeles Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl, the San Francisco Symphony, numerous performances with The Cleveland Orchestra at Blossom Music Center and The New York Pops at Carnegie Hall.
Now in his second decade as music director of the National Memorial Day Concert and A Capitol Fourth on PBS, Jack proudly leads the National Symphony Orchestra in these patriotic celebrations on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol. These concerts attract hundreds of thousands of attendees on the lawn, and the broadcasts reach millions of viewers, ranking among the highest-rated programs on PBS television.
Initially appointed by Mikhail Baryshnikov, Jack served as conductor of the American Ballet Theatre for 14 years, during which time he also held the position of music director. In addition to his tenure at ABT, he teamed with Marvin Hamlisch on Broadway shows that Hamlisch scored, including A Chorus Line and The Goodbye Girl. He conducted the legendary Carol Channing hundreds of times in Hello, Dolly!, including two separate Broadway productions and on tour.
Jack, a graduate of the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University, was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Music in 2021 from his alma mater. In addition, he received the 2023 Sagamore of the Wabash Award — the state of Indiana’s highest honor — a 2015 Indiana Historical Society Living Legends Award and holds an Honorary Doctor of Arts from Franklin College in his home state of Indiana. Jack is a proud resident of the Indianapolis community, and, when not on the podium, you can find him at home with his family.
