Jorge Parodi, conductor
Guest conductor Jorge Parodi returns to the podium, leading the Naples Philharmonic in Gulfshore Opera’s presentation of Puccini’s Madama Butterfly. With its luminous orchestral writing and unforgettable arias, this landmark work remains one of opera’s most moving portraits of devotion and loss. Set in Nagasaki at the turn of the 20th century, the story follows Cio-Cio-San, a young geisha who marries an American naval officer, only to be abandoned and later devastated when he returns with an American wife. Across three acts, Puccini weaves elements of Japanese folk melody into a distinctly Western orchestral language, creating a vividly colored and emotionally poignant score that has secured the opera’s enduring place in the repertoire.
